We spent an amazing week in Mexico, below are our suggestions about where to go and what to see.
Playa del Carmen is a beautiful beach town located in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico. It is a popular tourist destination, known for its white-sand beaches, clear blue waters, and vibrant nightlife.
If you are planning a week-long trip to Playa del Carmen, here is a possible itinerary:
Day 1:
- Arrive in Playa del Carmen and check into your hotel.
- Take a walk down Quinta Avenida, the main shopping street in town.
- Have dinner at one of the many restaurants on Quinta Avenida.
Day 2:
- Visit the Mayan ruins of Tulum, located about 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen.
- Relax on the beach at Tulum.
- Have dinner at one of the many restaurants in Tulum.
Day 3:
- Go snorkelling or scuba diving in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef system in the world.
- Visit the Xcaret Eco Park, a private theme park with a variety of activities, including swimming with dolphins, snorkelling in underground rivers, and exploring a Mayan village.
- Have dinner at one of the many restaurants in Xcaret Eco Park.
Day 4:
- Take a day trip to Chichen Itza, one of the most important Mayan ruins in Mexico.
- Visit the Sacred Cenote, a natural swimming hole that was used by the Mayans for religious ceremonies.
- Have dinner at one of the many restaurants in Chichen Itza.
Day 5:
- Go zip-lining through the jungle.
- Visit the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Have dinner at one of the many restaurants in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
Day 6:
- Relax on the beach at Playa del Carmen.
- Get a massage or other spa treatment.
- Have dinner at one of the many restaurants on Quinta Avenida.
Day 7:
- Depart from Playa del Carmen.
This is just a suggested itinerary, and you can customize it to fit your interests and budget. Playa del Carmen has something to offer everyone, so you are sure to have a great time no matter what you choose to do.
Here are some additional tips for planning your trip:
- Book your flights and accommodation in advance, especially if you are travelling during peak season.
- Pack light clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
- Bring a swimsuit, flip-flops, and a towel for the beach.
